LinkedIn has around 400 million users (recorded September 2015) and has an estimated 2 new members sign up every second from 200 different countries and territories.  With such user base, it’s easy to connect with anyone, from freelancers to CEO.  On the flip side, due to the lower barrier to entry, you have to compete with millions of users to get attention from your future clients, employers, investors or business partners.

First of, correctly updating your LinkedIn profile and using it to promote your skills and qualifications will increase your potential of getting noticed by small businesses in need of your skills. Hundreds and thousands of businesses, employers and recruitments agencies use LinkedIn to hunt for talented individuals with particular skills suitable to the job they have to fill. It is a fantastic social platform for both starting your career path and developing within your career. Each skill and job that your have gained should not only go on your CV but also on your LinkedIn profile. You can use LinkedIn to reach out to employers and businesses that your have a passion for and would love to work with and opens up many doors for new opportunities.

Adding a professional photo to your profile make you 14 times more likely to be found on LinkedIn and by adding a list of skills to you page increases your potential profile views by up to 13 times. There are around an estimated 380 million skills listed on LinkedIn so it is important to make yourself stand out as much as possible.

Only 13% of LinkedIn users are active everyday, by ensuring you spend a few minutes on your LinkedIn profile and platform a day makes you appear active, motivated and driven to succeed.
