A taxpaying resident of a country not only feels inwardly satisfied but also enjoys a lot of benefits and exemptions due to his ITIN number. So, it is always wise to apply for ITIN as soon as possible so that you may also live proudly in your country.

No doubt, a lot of people realize this very obligation of theirs and readily apply for ITIN, but they commit a lot of mistakes while filling an ITIN application form. Once filled incorrectly, this ITIN form has to be refilled which causes a hell of botheration and wastage of time and energy.

The most common mistakes which people make while filling their ITIN application are listed below, serving as a guideline for the others not to make such mistakes. Do read them carefully and propagate them as much as possible so that more and more people may be benefitted.

Instead of All, Only One Member Applies

This is a common mistake on the part of a number of families that only one member applies for ITIN. Instead, if all the members get their ITIN, the whole family will enjoy all the benefits promised by the government. Take a separate W-7 from for each member of your family so that everyone may claim exemption from taxes individually.

People Submit Copies Instead of Original Documents

You have to submit your original documents along with your ITIN form, for the notarized copies are not acceptable at this level of data processing. Passports, birth certificates, other certified copies of various documents, etc. must be presented in original so that no botheration whatsoever may have to be faced afterwards.

Blank Spaces Are Left Unfilled

Every applicant has to fill out each and every section of W-7 form. Unduly filled forms will not be accepted and the new forms will have to be resubmitted duly filled by the applicant. Write ‘N/A’ where you don’t have the required information so that no space is left unfilled.

Wrong entry of the Date order

The applicant is required to write the number of month before the date of that month, but a lot of applicants mistakenly fill the date first. Always keep in mind to fill the month before the date.

Not-mentioning All the Citizenships

Some applicants enjoy themselves of the citizenship of more than one country. They are required to mention the names, not the abbreviations, of all the countries they belong to. Missing any entry in this context will cause the rejection of your form. So, always be careful while filling the ITIN application.

Not Signing the Forms of Children Under-14?

Another mistake made by the applicants is that they don’t sign the forms of their children who are yet under-14 and need them to act as their guardians. There is a section “Name the delegate,” where you are required to state your name, sign and fill the relationship you have with the child. All above 14 will have to sign their forms themselves.

Submission of more than one proof of Foreign Identity

When an applicant submits his/her original passport, the authorities require no more information from his side. So, there is no need to tell them how many foreign identities you possess except for one. The original passport is the best evidence they have got.

Conclusion

Keeping the above-mentioned mistakes in your mind, you will be quite able to fill your ITIN application form correctly. But, if you still find some confusion and need help, you may consult any registered firm that will accomplish the task for you, making sure that each and every section if the form W-7 is duly filled out.
